Practical how-to for cosmetic argan oil: doses, three methods, precautions and which bottle to pick. Biomedica Morocco guide — no medical claims.

On this page
You have a bottle of argan oil and want to know how to use it without greasing skin or weighing hair down. This guide covers doses, face / body / hair steps, Moroccan context and clear limits: cosmetic comfort care, not a medical treatment.
What is cosmetic argan oil?
Cosmetic argan oil is a plant oil from argan kernels (Argania spinosa), meant for skin and hair. Cold-pressed when the label says so, it is usually neutral or lightly nutty — not the same as culinary argan oil, often toasted for cooking.
For basics (origin, purity, expectations), see what is argan oil and pure cold-pressed argan oil.
How to use argan oil: three methods
1. Face (clean skin, thin layer)
The most searched routine when people look up how to use argan oil.
- Cleanse and pat dry (slightly damp skin spreads oil better).
- Place 2–4 drops in your palm (oily skin: start with 1 drop at night).
- Rub 3–5 seconds between palms to warm the oil.
- Press gently onto cheeks, forehead, chin — avoid the eye area unless a dedicated product says otherwise.
- Wait 1–2 minutes before makeup or a richer cream if needed.
- In the sun: oil does not replace sunscreen.

2. Body (after shower)
On damp skin, oil spreads more evenly and feels less greasy.
- Step out of the shower and pat lightly — do not rub bone-dry.
- Pour a few drops (or a small amount for legs) into your hand.
- Focus on dry areas: legs, elbows, knees, décolleté, cuticles.
- Massage in thin layers until absorbed; add only if skin still feels tight.
- Wait before dressing to avoid fabric marks.
Handy body sizes: 100 ml or 60 ml.
3. Hair (finish or pre-shampoo)
On lengths, aim for slip and shine — not soaking the scalp.
- Finish: 1–3 drops on dry or damp ends, away from roots.
- Pre-shampoo: thin layer on lengths 20–40 min (longer if hair tolerates), then wash.
- Distribute with fingers or a wide-tooth comb; skip the scalp if you get oily easily.
- Typical rhythm: 2–3 finishes per week, or one weekly intensive care.
- Optional: argan detangling conditioner.

How much should you use?
Less is more. Argan is rich; too much leaves a film, attracts dust and may clog pores on acne-prone skin.
- Face: 2–4 drops (1 drop to test oily skin).
- Ends: 1–3 drops.
- Body: thin layer per area.
Overdose signs: lasting greasy shine, flat hair, heavy feel. Cut drops or space applications. See expiry and comedogenic.
Using argan oil in Morocco
Herboristeries often sell cosmetic argan for skin and hair, and a separate bottle for the table. Always check stated use (cosmetic vs culinary), volume and date. Buying tips: argan oil Morocco and prices in Morocco.
Benefits: what we can say honestly
In cosmetic use, argan is mainly sought to nourish, soften and leave dry skin and hair looking more supple. That is the core of argan oil benefits.
We do not claim it treats acne, eczema, hair loss or any disease. Irritated skin or doubt: see a health professional.
Essential precautions
- Do not mix up cosmetic bottles and culinary argan oil 250 ml.
- Patch test: one drop on the inner arm 24 h before intensive face use.
- Very oily / blemish-prone skin: minimal dose, preferably at night; stop if irritated.
- Eyes: no direct contact.
- Storage: away from light and heat; rancid smell = stop cosmetic use.
