Argan oil for hair: end finish, pre-shampoo oil, and detangling conditioner — simple steps, no miracle growth claims.

On this page
Looking for argan oil for hair? The cosmetic goal is soft, manageable lengths with a light shine — not guaranteed growth or a medical scalp cure. This guide covers doses, methods and common mistakes.
For the broader benefits frame (and limits), start with argan oil benefits. On growth expectations: argan oil and hair growth.
Why argan on hair?
Cold-pressed cosmetic argan oil leaves a light film that helps lengths feel softer and less rough. It does not replace a suitable shampoo or medical care for significant hair loss.
On dry hair and frizz, oil plus a detangler often beats one heavy layer alone — see dry hair and frizz.
Three application methods
1. End finish (daily or 2–3× / week)
- Hair dry or lightly damp — not soaking wet.
- Put 1–3 drops in your palm; rub to warm.
- Apply only on ends and mid-lengths, away from roots if they run oily.
- Comb or finger-detangle; do not add “just in case” oil.
2. Pre-shampoo oil
- On dry lengths, spread a thin layer (about 4–8 drops by length — not a soaking coat).
- Leave 15–30 minutes (or per label); optional shower cap.
- Shampoo once or twice to remove excess.
- Optionally finish with argan detangling conditioner for 2–4 minutes, then rinse.
3. Conditioner + drops duo
After rinsing conditioner, 1–2 drops of pure oil on still-damp ends locks in finish without weighing hair as much as oil alone on dry hair.
Dose by length
- Bob / mid-length: 1–2 drops as finish
- Long: 2–3 drops; start low, increase only if ends stay dry
- Very dry / coily: max 3 drops as finish, or prefer pre-shampoo
- Oily roots: zero oil on the scalp; ends only
Common mistakes
- Pouring oil on the scalp “to make hair grow”
- Using culinary argan on hair
- Leaving a thick overnight coat without washing (sticky feel, stained pillow)
- Expecting a medical result on shedding or alopecia
What we do not claim
We do not promise denser hair, guaranteed regrowth or scalp disease treatment. Argan mainly supports manageability and tactile comfort of lengths. Sudden shedding, patches or persistent itch: see a professional.
Precautions
- Avoid eyes; rinse with clean water if contact occurs
- Very fine hair: minimal dose so it does not flatten
- Known nut/seed allergy: caution and forearm patch test
- Storage: closed bottle, away from heat and light
In Morocco: hair ritual and herboristerie
Moroccan herboristeries often suggest argan for dry ends after sun or hammam. Check the bottle is truly cosmetic and cold-pressed. Local context: argan oil Morocco. Choosing size: price in Morocco.
