Argan oil benefits: what cosmetic use really offers

What argan oil actually does in skincare and hair care — comfort and softness — without medical hype. Biomedica Morocco guide.

On this page
Searches for argan oil benefits often mix marketing and reality. At Biomedica, argan oil is a cold-pressed cosmetic oil: it nourishes and softens on the surface. Not medicine, not SPF, not a miracle cure.
This pillar sets honest expectations — skin comfort, hair finish, post-shower body care — then points you to face, hair and bottle sizes. For the basics, also read what is argan oil.
What is cosmetic argan oil?
Cosmetic argan oil comes from kernels of the argan tree (Argania spinosa), typical of south-west Morocco. In a cold-pressed skin and hair grade, it stays light, mildly nutty depending on the batch, and is for external use only.
It is not the same as culinary argan (often toasted kernels, stronger taste). See cosmetic vs culinary and pure cold-pressed argan oil.
Realistic argan oil benefits
In cosmetics, feedback usually centres on comfort and manageability, not clinical outcomes. What we can say without overclaiming:
- Comfort on dry or tight-feeling skin after washing
- Softer lengths and ends with a light shine
- A nourishing film on dry body zones (legs, elbows, décolleté)
- Often rich in vitamin E and fatty acids — always check your batch label

How to use it day to day
Rule of thumb: less is more. Too much oil leaves a greasy film and people stop using it.
- Face: clean skin, 2–4 drops warmed between hands, face and neck. Detail: argan oil for face.
- Hair: 1–3 drops on ends, or a thin pre-shampoo layer. See argan oil for hair.
- Body: a few drops on still-damp skin after shower, dry areas only.
Multi-zone how-to: how to use argan oil.
Dosage by area
- Face: 2–4 drops; very oily skin: half a drop at night
- Ends: 1–3 drops by length and porosity
- Body: thin layer, zone by zone — not a full-body oil bath
If skin looks shiny or roots feel heavy, halve the dose for a week.
Common mistakes
- Mixing up cosmetic bottles with culinary argan 250 ml
- Expecting “guaranteed” hair growth (see argan oil and hair growth)
- Flooding oily roots or acne-prone face with a thick layer
- Leaving the bottle in the sun — faster oxidation
What we do not claim
We do not claim medical results: eczema cures, baldness treatment, clinical anti-ageing, wound healing, acne therapy. Argan oil is not an SPF. For skin or scalp conditions, see a professional.
On comedogenicity and shelf life: expiry and comedogenic.
Essential precautions
- External use only for cosmetic bottles
- Avoid eyes and mucous membranes
- 48-hour patch test on first use or reactive skin
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, skin disease: ask a clinician if unsure
- Rancid smell or odd sticky texture: stop cosmetic use
Argan oil in Morocco and herboristerie
In Morocco, argan sits in both herboristerie and home cosmetics. Always check cosmetic vs food use, volume, and cold-pressed wording on the label. Local context: argan oil Morocco and argan oil price in Morocco.
